Research projects include Master’s theses on cultural diversity, while programs include those for empowerment of the minority, that enable expansion of the scope of cultural diversity and understanding of different cultures, and translation and creation of works to promote understanding of cultural diversity. Families of International marriages, single parent families, families headed by children supporting their grandmother….We have families of different types and forms around us. There are people who dream of “a world where everyone can move safely and conveniently”, “a world where the disabled face no barrier or discrimination”. People cross borders and risk their lives to escape into South Korea from North Korea in search of a better life, regardless of linguistic and cultural differences. People endure every single hard day thinking of their family in their distant homeland. People are discriminated against because of their sexual identity, or because of their gender. A look around us will show we are living with “different people”, who are often called “the minority”.
The Daum Foundation runs the Cultural Diversity Grant to help create a society where different people can live together in harmony. The Grant will be available year-round, around the clock from September 2007.
