In 2005, the Awards were limited to 3 major categories in technology, Internet culture and sociopolitical/civic activism, and 18 sub-categories. The coverage is scheduled to be expanded and diversified to include video, images, etc. The Infortrust Web Awards are designed to collect, evaluate, and choose, with the help of Internet users, Internet heritages worthy of preservation from among online information that disappears.

The 1st Infortrust Web Awards Ceremony was co-hosted in 2005 by NIDA, the Korean National Commission for UNESCO, and Daum Communications, under the theme of “The Internet Culture Worthy of Our Preservation.” Awards were given to 30 Web sites on that occasion. The awardees were presented with the Infortrust Web Awards Emblem, which serves as a symbol that denotes chosen Web sites as important cultural heritages that we have the obligation to preserve. The Infortrust Web Awards are also designed to enhance social recognition of the necessity and importance of the Digital Open Archive, as “the Digital Open Archive to be Preserved” will be open from Jan 2007.
